Green Peas-Capsisum Upma/Upittu

Upma/Upittu is general famous breakfast item prepared in South India. It is prepared commonly by using Rava/Soji. It is also prepared by using beaten wheat, beaten rice, sabudana etc.,

Today I have prepared Rava Upma/Upittu along with Green Peas and Capsicum. It is very tasty with the famous combination of Peas and Capsicum.

Ingredients :

Medium Rava                                                          2 cup

Green Peas                                                                ½ cup

Capsicum                                                                  ½ cup

Green chillies                                                          7-8 big

Ginger                                                                        1”

Pepper                                                                       ½ tsp

Jeera                                                                           ½ tsp

Curry leaves                                                            4-5 strands

Coriander leaves                                                   one fistful

Lemon Juice                                                           3-4 tsp

Grated Coconut                                                     ½ cup

Mustard                                                                    ½ tsp

Oil                                                                               4-5 tsp

Chana Dal                                                                ¾ tsp

Urad Dal                                                                  ½ tsp

Water                                                                        5 cups

Salt to taste

Method :

If you are using dry peas, wash and soak for 4-5 hrs.

Cook Green Peas along with a pinch of salt and keep aside.

Dry roast Rava until golden brown and keep aside.

Roast Pepper and Jeera and grind into fine powder.

Keep water for boiling.

In a pan put oil, when it is hot put mustard seeds. When it splutters add chana dal, urad dal and curry leaves and fry until golden brown.

Now add sliced capsicum and fry for 2 mins.

Add grounded chilli paste.

Now add cooked green peas and boiling water.

When the whole mixture is boiling, lower the flame, slowly go on adding roasted rava while stirring continuously.

Cover the lid and lower the flame and allow to cook for 2-3 mins.

Now gently fold Green Peas & Capsicum Upma/Upittu well.

Switch off the flame.

Add grated coconut, finely chopped coriander leaves, pepper-jeera powder, lemon juice and mix well.

Close the lid and keep for another 2-3 mins.

Now Green Peas & Capsicum Upma/Upittu is ready to serve.

Serve hot with a dash of ghee to it.

It can also be served along with Kesaribath.

Tips :

While adding Rava flame should be lowered and further cooking will be medium-low flame. If you want Green Peas & Capsicum Upma/Upittu dry water should be added less. You can add a pinch of turmeric also, its optional.
