SPRING ONION GRAVY-EERULLI HOOVU GOJJU

Spring Onion/Eerulli Hoovu smells alike Onion but taste differs.  Various dishes are prepared from these.

 

It is also used for decorative purpose in the dishes.

 

Today let us learn an easy and tasty recipe Spring Onion gravy / Eerulli Hoovu gojju which can be consumed with chapatti, dosa, hot rice etc.,

 

Ingredients :

Spring Onion/Eerulli Hoovu         1 cup (chopped)

Green chillies                                   3-4

Tamarind pulp                                  2 tsp

Jaggery                                              small lemon size or as per taste

Gojju Powder                                   ¾ tbsp

Salt to taste

Curry leaves                                      1 stalk

Coriander leaves                              2 stalks

Mustard seeds                                  ¼ tsp

Oil                                                       1 tbsp

 

Method :

Spring Onion curry/Eerulli Hoovu gojju

Take oil is a pan, when it is hot add mustard splutters, add curry leaves and slit green chillies.

Add chopped Spring Onion/Eerulli Hoovu , mix well and close the lid.

Allow to cook for 4-5 mins.

When it is tender and soft, add tamarind pulp, salt, jaggery, gojju powder and mix well.

Add little water if required and cook for 3-4 mins.

When gojju/gravy is cooking add coriander leaves.  Allow to cook for another 2-3 mins.

Spring Onion gravy / Eerulli Hoovu gojju is ready to serve.  It tastes well with chapatti, dosa, hot rice, upma etc.,

Tips :

You can add more jaggery if you want gojju little sweetish.  If gojju is too watery you can add ½ tsp of rice flour.  If gojju is very thick add little water and cook for 2 mins.  If you do not have Gojju Powder or no time to prepare you can use sambar powder and prepare gojju.
